Dear Friends,
As you may or may not know, I am now working for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend. I didn't take this job because of the glory of the position but because of the mission of the Organization. Like you, I dream of a world where every child is given the opportunity to succeed. Unfortunately, our mission can not be fulfilled with out the support of the community. I would like to say that we are surviving the tough economic times but honestly, we are not.
We currently keep over 7,000 kids off of the streets in our after school programs and during the summer months. We provide academic tutoring, choir, dance, musical instruments, and health and fitness education. These are all programs that you see being cut from our school systems all across America and without the generosity of others we too will have to cut these programs.
According to a 2007 study conducted by Florida Tax Watch, Florida Boys & Girls Clubs save taxpayers millions of dollars in costs associated with high school drop-outs and juvenile offenders. In fact, 90% of Boys & Girls Clubs alumni nationwide graduate high school and 57% of club members said the Club saved their life.
You can help make sure these kids stay off the streets by supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend. I know the current economic conditions are less than ideal. But I also know that you care about the future of our children, and I hope you will do what you can to support this cause by making a financial contribution to the 2009 “It Just Takes One” Annual Campaign and helping me achieve my personal fundraising goal.
